Why Compare Medigap Rates?

Although Medigap plans are standardized, premiums can vary widely between insurers. Comparing rates helps ensure you receive the coverage you need at the most competitive price. Learn how to compare plans and request your free quote today.

Steps to Compare Medicare Supplement Plans

  1. Identify the benefits you want. All Medigap plans cover the same 4 basic benefits, and some add up to 5 more. See the full list at Medigap Benefits.
  2. Match your needs with a plan letter. There are 10 standardized plans in most states (others in MA, MN, and WI). Review the 2025 Medigap Comparison Chart to see which plan covers what.
  3. Compare prices. The only difference between one insurer’s Plan G and another’s is cost. Always get multiple quotes for the same plan letter.

Most Popular Plans in 2025

  • Plan G – Covers everything except the Part B deductible ($257 in 2025).
  • Plan N – Lower premiums than Plan G; excludes the Part B deductible and Part B excess charges.
  • Plan B – Often among the lowest-premium options for new beneficiaries.

High-deductible options like High Deductible Plan G and High Deductible Plan F offer much lower monthly premiums if you’re comfortable with a larger deductible.

How Insurers Set Prices

When comparing quotes, know how insurers price policies:

  • Attained-age-rated – Premiums rise as you get older.
  • Community-rated – Everyone pays the same rate, regardless of age.
  • Issue-age-rated – Your premium is based on the age you first enroll.

Other factors may include ZIP code, gender, and tobacco use. During your Medigap Open Enrollment Period or with a guaranteed issue right, insurers cannot use health underwriting.
